The Las Vegas Grille
When protein and smoke come together, it doesn’t always mean southern style BBQ. In the right hands, it can mean a seriously good apple wood smoked pork loin, white oak smoked sirloin, pecan wood smoked chicken or (brace yourself) nectarine wood smoked salmon.
The three guys in charge of the smoke at the 11-week old Las Vegas Grille on West Sahara aren’t just playing with fire. They are matching the flavor nuances of different woods with the characteristics of different meats, seafood and seriously, some of the best house made sausages we’ve had recently.
The inspired menu features a changing roster of sausages, meatballs, salads, sandwiches and desserts. Interesting sides like a tangy Bavarian potato salad and truly outstanding herb roasted potatoes are worthy of the world-class meats on the menu.
We are in love with the smoky, juicy kielbasa and the sweet Italian fennel sausage, but the star of a recent dining experience was the luscious, buttery, apple wood smoked boneless pork loin that melted in our mouths. The tender white oak smoked sirloin was a close second.
We love the vague European flare to all of this smoke and sausage goodness as much as the bright, casual setting of the restaurant. While heavy on meat entrees, we spotted a few fish and vegetarian offerings on the menu. The comfortable, family-friendly restaurant will be serving beer and wine as soon as they wrap up the web of red tape that goes with a obtaining a liquor license.
The Las Vegas Grille is located on the corner of Sahara and Buffalo and is well worth the drive if you happen to be coming from the other side of town. Stop to admire the gleaming, behemouth stainless steel smoker while waiting to place your order for dine in or carryout.
