Big Paul’s (formerlyTexas BBQ Café)

Texas BBQ Café

(UPDATE: The name has changed recently from Texas BBQ cafe to Big Paul’s, but the owner & menu remain the same) When we’re talking BBQ, this is what we mean. Juicy, melt-in-your-mouth brisket. Luscious, tender pulled pork. Smoky, fall-off-the-bone ribs…and an original BBQ sauce that’s tangy, not-to-sweet and worthy of meats smoked and tended for hours over hickory and mesquite.

Not everyone who knows how to cook well can also do BBQ. Good BBQ is an art that takes years to perfect and we found a master of BBQ here in Las Vegas (finally!) at the Texas BBQ Café on W. Flamingo near Rainbow who has perfected the art.

Texas BBQ Café is located at the end of a strip plaza and from what we observed, that wasn’t an accident. Paul, the owner and pit-master proudly showed us the work horse of his operation. A small outdoor area located at the corner of the plaza adjacent to the restaurant houses his smokers where briskets, ribs and pork butts slowly smoke for a good part of a 24 hour day until they are transformed into the most lip-smacking BBQ we have found anywhere in Vegas, all served with might be one of the top BBQ sauces we’ve come across.

Paul perfected his BBQ at his restaurant in Texas before moving his operation to Las Vegas. His divine slow-smoked meats can be ordered and enjoyed at one of the tidy tables in the clean, bright café or ordered to-go. And while meats are the stars here, the choice of sides also shine. All the standard salads are on the roster as well as fried okra, black eyed peas, candied yams, red beans & rice, hush puppies, biscuits and much more. Large portions and reasonable prices are a bonus with lunch, dinner and delivery specials on the menu.

When it comes to regional BBQ, this is the real deal for Texas-style BBQ. It just doesn’t get any better than this. Texas BBQ Café gets our highest recommendation. Definitely worth driving from the other side of town if you are serious about BBQ.
