This is not your parents’ Italian restaurant. This is your Italian grandmother’s cooking on steroids. Especially if your Italian grandmother is from South Philadelphia. Steve Martorano is making some of the finest iconic Italian home cooking anywhere in Vegas at his restaurant at the Rio. Martorano’s meatballs are faves with his celeb pals, locals and tourists and are served in a high energy atmosphere with his favorite Italian mob movies and classic rock’n roll . Located on the second level of the casino, many of the tables face the casino’s popular Show in the Sky which can be viewed at eye level for a very cool perspective while dining or sitting at the very cool bar.

His meatballs are the star of the show. The seven ounce, authentically seasoned veal, pork and beef meatballs served with his world famous red sauce are not to be missed. These tender, juicy behemoths are the real deal. You’ll not find a better meatball. Period. Just ask Joey Chestnut, the meatball eating champion of the world who recently won the world meatball eating challenge by downing 43 of Martorano’s masterpieces.

Ricotta and mozzarella cheeses are made in house and transform eggplant and pasta dishes into something heavenly. The house made mozzarella shines in the Eggplant stack finished with a splash of aged balsamic vinegar.

Many of the main courses come with scoops of their amazing ricotta and that addicting red sauce that has made Martorano famous on both coasts. Chicken and seafood dishes aren’t ordinary either. We couldn’t bear to put our forks down when our Lobster Francaise was served. The chunks of perfectly cooked lobster tail were cooked with white wine, butter and luscious chunks of jumbo lump crab. The risotto served with the lobster was perfectly executed and should not be missed if you’re looking for risotto seasoned and cooked as it should be. Deserts include massive slices of Carnegie Deli cheesecake and honest-to-goodness homemade ricotta cannoli.

We can’t wait to get back to Martorano’s to try the truffle parmesan fries, homemade gnocchi and Bucatini Amatriciana, a thick, tube shape spaghetti with pancetta, red onion, San Marzano tomato sauce and Pecorino Romano cheese.

Martorano’s is a quick & easy $10 cab ride from the Strip to the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino at 3700 W Flamingo, Las Vegas, NV.
